Pair of Marais Metal Bar Stools by Tolix
Pair of Marais Metal Bar Stools by Tolix
$299
Metalworker Xavier Pauchard not only brought the art of galvanizing steel to France but also took the process to the next level by creating the Marais A Chair (1934), as well as a selection of stools. The Tolix Marais Stool is built to be sat upon or to be used as a handy surface to hold tools or other items. All Tolix furniture is still made in Autun, the same Burgundy town where the company first began. Slight surface abrasions and markings are characteristic of the material and part of its hardworking machine aesthetic. Today, Tolix's creations are on display at the MoMa in New York, the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, and they regularly appear on the pages of decorating magazines around the world.
